From: Stanton McCandlish @ EFF We just talked with (EFF attorney) Robin Gross, who is down in San Jose
for Dmitry's bail hearing. ElcomSoft is putting up a $50,000 bond for
Dmitry's bail. Dmitry is being released into the custody of a local man
of Russian descent who shares mutual friends with Dmitry. Dmitry is restricted to Northern California. That's it. The U.S. Attorney
will continue to hold Dmitry's passport, which they confiscated when he
was arrested. There is no electronic monitoring or otherwise invasive
limitation on Dmitry. As of 11:45am, they were waiting outside the courthouse for Dmitry to emerge, once the bond was paid and he was outprocessed. EFF offline activist Katina Bishop reported that there were a good 50 protesters outside, and the courtroom was packed. Coverage of Dmitry's release on $50,000 bail: |

Past reports Date: Sat, 4 Aug 2001 01:34:16 -0700 (PDT) Dmitry is currently being held at the following location: Santa Clara County Dept Of Corrections Their files do not have a "court date" listed for him, since
he's listed as being on hold for US Marshal (sp?) Their website shows visiting information at: http://www.sccdoc.org/visiting.html Most importantly: Under some circumstances (location, inmate "category), THERE MAY BE A 1 HOUR/WEEK LIMIT ON TOTAL VISITS, so someone maximally "useful" should use that time. Date: Fri, 3 Aug 2001 14:13:18 -0700 [Editor's note: Alex Katalov works with Dmitry at elcomsoft] 1 Aug 2001: Dmitry is expected to be taken to San Jose on Friday, August 3. Date: Tue, 31 Jul 2001 12:07:02 -0400 Date: Mon, 30 Jul 2001 09:44:23 -0700 (PDT) As of Mon Jul 30 09:43:03 PDT 2001, Dmitry has been confirmed (voice)
to still be at the following facility: FTC [Federal Transfer Center, of which there is indeed only one on the
list of all US federal Bureau of Prisons facilities] Oklahoma City Date: Sat, 28 Jul 2001 19:48:41 -0700 From: Seth David Schoen Subject:Dmitry Sklyarov location change Dmitry Sklyarov was moved from Las Vegas on Friday and was in Federal From: Sam Weiler Dmitry Sklyarov, 26, was transferred on Friday from the Las Vegas jail where he had been held since his July 16 arrest, an official said. A spokeswoman for the U.S. Marshall's office in Las Vegas confirmed Sklyarov was being transferred to San Jose where charges against him were filed. She declined to say when he would arrive and how he was traveling, citing security reasons. Full story:
Date: Fri, 27 Jul 2001 13:48:15 -0700 (PDT) As of Friday July 27, 1:45pm PDT, Dmitry is still at North Las Vegas jail. The person answering the phone at the jail seemed to recognize the last name this time; I have a feeling other people have been calling them as well, potentially in large numbers.
Date: Wed, 25 Jul 2001 13:53:15 -0700 (PDT) I have just received a voice confirmation from the North Las Vegas Department of Detention/Correction that Dmitry is being held at their facility. Once again, their contact information is: IMPORTANT: In their records, Dmitry's last name is MISSPELLED. Their database has his last name as SKYLAROV (note also that there seems to have been a hand-written correction on the original filing by the FBI agent). Please DO NOT harrass prison officials with phone calls since we may need their cooperation between now and when Dmitry is moved. When I inquired how long he will be held there, they said that they have no way of knowing because "he is a US Marshal inmate, and may be moved at any time". I guess we knew that already.
